BDC students have the chance to work with and learn from a faculty that are known globally for their cutting-edge research, grounded in strong industry experience. Here are just a few:

Andrew McArthur is known for his pioneering work in bioinformatics, functional genomics, and computational biology, with his research standing sentinel against biological threats.

Yingfu Li has successfully commercialized an aptamer-based saliva test for SARS-CoV2. Yingfu’s research is situated at the interface between chemistry and biology and continues to innovate by exploring various DNA-based enzymes and receptors for diverse applications.

Lori Burrows is the Associate Director of The Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research (IIDR) at McMaster University, a world-leading centre of transdisciplinary infectious disease research. Lori’s research focuses on multifunctional surface filaments and the role of biofilm development leading to antibiotic resistance.

Gerry Wright is an internationally recognized researcher in dealing with antimicrobial resistance and leading the charge for new antibiotic discovery.

Christopher Longo has more than 20 years of industry experience in clinical research, economic evaluation, and market access strategies for pharmaceuticals. He has published both clinical and economic research on diabetes, cancer, sepsis, and central nervous system disorders.

MBDC Mentorship Program

Master students not only get to learn from the best but develop working relationships with world-class professors through the mentorship program. All students in the MBDC program will be paired with a researcher from the faculty who will offer both career and academic support through regularly scheduled touchpoints. The primary role of the faculty advisor is to offer ongoing advice to the student to assist them in achieving their educational and professional goals.
