As a Pharmacy Procurement Analyst, I maintain the accuracy of the pharmacy database, ensuring alignment with Health Canada regulations and manufacturer specifications for various drugs. Additionally, I play a role in updating the database by inputting information for newly marketed drugs, facilitating smooth operations for pharmacies.

My favourite part about my internship is the colleagues I work with and the general workplace environment at Shoppers. Everyone is looking to help and the opportunities to work with other teams is also present so that I can expand my network and learning potential.

I help facilitate weekly programs tailored to startup companies, investors, and Hamilton Health Sciences ecosystem partners. Working closely with a coaching team, I identify and address gaps in startup teams’ business plans, offering strategic guidance on market analysis, regulatory/IP strategy, pitch preparation, and funding strategies. Additionally, I maintain the online resource portal, ensuring up-to-date events, opportunities, and content availability to enhance user experience and engagement with the platform.

My favourite part of my internship is the constant learning and networking opportunities. One highlight is getting to meet and learn from experts in the biotech and healthcare fields. Whether it’s chatting with seasoned entrepreneurs or attending workshops led by industry leaders, each interaction is a chance to gain valuable insights and expand my knowledge.

Market Access Strategy Intern

AstraZeneca is great in the sense that it provides you with a wide range of projects/ tasks for you to familiarize yourself with the role. The market access team is responsible for bringing drugs to market, essentially taking it through the approval process. My role as an intern is to assist in any components of that, that the team thinks I am capable of. I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to jump on a CADTH submission where I have conducted the initial assessment. Furthermore, I have had tasks like developing Hospital Formulary Kits, as well as conducting trend analyses to further asses the effectiveness of clinical trials. There are plenty of things to do and it ultimately boils down to what you are interested in and what the team needs.

Over the last 6 years, there has been a specific program that has brought students to this specific intern role. However, I am proud of be from the MBDC program because of the mentors that it has developed for me. There is great support in the MBDC program and it also wastes no time to bring you to job market!

Marketing Intern

As a marketing intern, I have completed various marketing related tasks such as creating promotional content, proposing and executing marketing strategies, using web development software to re-design the company’s website, creating company/product brochures and leaflets, and inputting large volumes of target customers into a CRM software.

My favourite part of MBDC is the community that our cohort has built throughout the years that we’ve been together. As a relatively small program, we had the chance to collaborate and communicate with one another, learning from each other, and being exposed to new perspectives, thoughts, and ideas. This collaborative approach fostered a sense of unity, teamwork, and inclusivity – values that are deeply important to me. Collaboration within the program showed me that cooperating with like-minded individuals lays the foundation for success in achieving ambitious goals and projects.

As a PT analyst, I collaborate with different teams across Roche, contributing to work packages using tools like Veeva, Appscripting, statistical and data analysis. Together with stakeholders, we undertake projects to enhance business process optimization at Roche. This role offers the flexibility to engage in projects across various departments, providing a comprehensive understanding of functionalities and enabling career alignment with specific fields of interest.

The best aspect of my internship is the chance to explore diverse functionalities throughout Roche. This facet of my internship also enables me to network with individuals from various departments, enhancing my understanding of potential career paths aligned with my areas of interest.

As a marketing intern at argenx, I’m responsible for the implementation of the VYVGART brand strategy and tactical initiatives to achieve commercial objectives. I focus on brand management and co-create promotional materials to engage HCPs and KOL development for Canada. In doing so, I work closely and effectively collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including Medical, Commercial, Regulatory Affairs, Government Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Legal, Corporate Communications, as well as third-party firms.

My favourite part of the internship is definitely the people and culture at argenx! The collaborative and supportive nature of each team member makes for a fun work environment where I’m encouraged to grow, ask questions, and constantly learn.

As a Business Development Associate, my role entails adeptly managing government claim submissions and fostering fruitful communication with C-level executives. Alongside, I diligently conduct market analysis on biosimilars and identify key funding opportunities, driving our company’s strategic growth initiatives forward.

My favourite aspect of this role is the significant level of trust the company places in my abilities to execute at a high level, allowing me to contribute to strategizing and collaborating on driving impactful business development initiatives forward.

My role consists of both lab work as well as business development. In the lab, I focus on performing experiments that can enhance our company’s current vaccine stabilization technology. In business development, I focus on doing market research to search for potential companies that Elarex can partner and collaborate with. BDC’s training in both scientific research and product commercialization equipped me with vital skills to succeed in such diverse aspects of my current role.

My favourite part of internship is that working in a small start-up allows me to be more involved in the operation of the company, and my work can make an impact on the direction that the company is heading. Although the responsibility might seem heavy, it’s accompanied feeling of achievement is also incredible.

Data Sciences Product Leader Intern

As an intern in the Data Strategy and Delivery department, I help build databases that clinical research sites use to input patient data during the course of a study. As the trial progresses, my role is responsible for cleaning the data and ensuring it can be used for regulatory approval. I collaborate with a study team and act as the main point of contact for any data related issues in preparation for interim analyses or submissions.

My favourite part of the internship has to be getting to know my supportive and kind colleagues at Roche. Given the warm environment, I’m able to easily collaborate with individuals across functions and also across the world!

Clinical Study Administrator

Working within the Country Operations Management (COM) team, I provide support with electronic file management, document tracking, and overall supporting the administrative phase of clinical trials. My role allows for collaboration with the Study Start-Up (SSU) team to prepare trial sites for activation by organizing deliverables and the timely distribution/collection of regulatory documents.

My favourite part of my internship is learning more about the administrative procedures and logistics involved in the set-up and management of clinical trials, specifically in phase 2 and 3.

My favourite part of the internship is being able to work in an inclusive and friendly company environment where I am able to meet people in various roles and gain a better understanding of the rare disease pharmaceutical industry.

Global Study Intern

As a Global Study Intern within Respiratory and Immunology (R&I) Clinical Operations (Clin Ops), I oversee and facilitate the execution of clinical studies across their entire lifecycle, from study set-up through maintenance, close-out, and archiving. Within the Global Study Team, my role involves collaborating with study investigators, strategic partners, vendors, and site staff to ensure that trials within AZ’s R&I portfolio are conducted efficiently, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory and Good Clinical Practice guidelines (ICH/GCP) across all country sites.

What truly stands out to me is how friendly and approachable everyone at AZ is. Chatting with people in different roles has not only helped me adapt more easily but has also provided valuable insights into AZ’s various initiatives, particularly in Clin Ops. Witnessing firsthand how patient-centric clinical innovations are transforming the Clin Ops landscape has been an incredible learning experience and a significant motivator for my contributions in this field.

As a Regulatory Affairs Intern, I help ensure the regulatory compliance of Roche’s global product portfolio. This involves collaborating with regulatory and technical experts, coordinating and preparing document packages for submissions, and ensuring alignment with local and regional requirements.

I have enjoyed seeing the business from a regulatory perspective, honing my attention to detail, and applying problem-solving skills to ensure the uninterrupted supply of Roche’s products to patients. I oversee the execution of global oncology clinical trials by acting as the primary point of contact for site research staff, investigators, and external vendors. I also manage patient recruitment and collaborate with study team members spanning several countries to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance.

My favourite part of my internship is that I am exposed to the entire scope of clinical trial delivery from start-up to close-out in a welcoming and patient-centric learning environment.

Lung Oncology Marketing Intern

As a Lung marketing intern in the Oncology Business Unit (OBU) at AstraZeneca, I work closely with a wide range of cross functional partners, including but not limited to Diagnostics, Medical, Sales, Access, and an external Marketing Agency. On a daily basis, I contribute to the execution of strategic imperatives for the 2024 calendar year through preparing marketing materials. These materials will go through the Sales force for use in the field when interacting with our customers (Thoracic surgeons, Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, etc.) and patients. I also have the opportunity of representing AstraZeneca at national conferences, where I prepare material for functional and cross-functional sessions, interact with patients, and network. Later in the year, I will contribute to Brand Strategic Planning for the 2025 calendar year as well as help launch new indications in the Lung portfolio!

It is hard to pinpoint one part of my internship that has been my favourite so far. Everything has been amazing, whether it is the actual work, the people I work with everyday, or attending national conferences, I have enjoyed every moment of it thus far.

As a marketing intern, I work cross-functionally with many teams internally and externally to help execute marketing materials. I also assist the marketing team in managing their current marketing tools and ensure they adhere to deadlines.

My favourite part of my internship is being able to latch on to projects of interest in various departments, including market research and omnichannel excellence.

Technical Writer Intern

As a Technical Writer Intern at Sanofi, I prepare high-quality submissible and technical documents while following company and regulatory-approved templates within the specified timelines; documents include clinical submissions, technical/process reports, and working instructions. I also edit and compile Module 3 quality documentation to be submitted to the FDA within specified timelines, while following the review and approval timelines managed through Microsoft Project and SharePoint.

My future career aspirations include a managerial role within regulatory affairs or technical writing. There are many different streams that I see myself in, one of which is overseeing documentation management systems.

Gyn/GU Oncology Marketing Intern

As an Marketing Intern under the Oncology department at AstraZeneca, I play a key role in assisting with the 2024 commercial plan of action for a key brand, and am responsible for the development and execution of associated promotional materials or activities. Being a pan-tumor drug that is commercialized through an alliance, there is a heavy emphasis on cross-collaboration between internal and external (partner company) departments, such as Diagnostics, Medical, Sales, Access, and more. Generally, my role revolves around contributing to the brand strategy plan, coordinating AstraZeneca’s Oncology presence at national conferences, creating promotional content following regulatory guidelines, and being a key liaison between the Sales team and head office Marketing team.

My favourite part of this internship is the cross-collaboration aspect. Being able to interact with so many people from different disciplines not only promotes networking, but also allows me to get a glimpse of other aspects in the pharmaceutical industry. So far, I have had such a positive experience connecting with my coworkers, and I look forward to what we’ll achieve together in 2024.

Respiratory Biologics Marketing Intern

In my role as the Respiratory Biologics Marketing Intern at AstraZeneca, I work within the Respiratory and Immunology team to support marketing tactics for a severe asthma treatment. For example, I collaborate with a broad cross functional team and with partners externally to help create HCP and patient materials for the sales team.

My favourite part of the internship is learning about the world of pharmaceutical marketing and the numerous considerations that guide this work, all while as part of a supportive and talented team.

Business Development Intern

The McMaster Industry Liaison Office (MILO) assists with the technology transfer activities of research from the lab to market. My role at MILO involves evaluating new disclosures for their patentability and commercial potential, gathering and compiling information to prepare reports on the commercial potential and application of technologies, marketing technologies to help increase exposure to companies, and supporting the team in various other initiatives.

My favourite part of the internship is working with and learning from the wonderful individuals at MILO, and being able to apply both science and business acumen while gaining practical experience in research commercialization.

As the Marketing Associate, I strategize and execute various marketing projects aimed at increasing promotional reach within our market. I work diligently with legal, regulatory, medical, and international colleagues to ensure marketing materials are compliant, and meet the needs of the Canadian market. Other tasks that I have been fortunate to collaborate on is supporting the launch of new educational platforms to strengthen educational tools for the use of our products, reorganizing company wide communication sites for increased accessibility and structure, as well as assist in the planning of patient ad boards across the country.

My favourite part of my internship so far is having the opportunity to participate in the international sales meeting for Mallinckrodt in London, England this past January. I was able to make new meaningful connections, throughout the Canadian team as well as across the global company.

As a medical affairs intern, I appraise scientific data and create medical slide decks that medical science liaisons use in the field when interacting with healthcare professionals. I am also responsible for organizing medical assets for digital channels.

My favourite part of my internship at Boehringer Ingelheim is the incredibly friendly company culture centred around bringing life-changing drugs to patients.

Cleaning Validation Intern

My overall duties include supporting engineers in cleaning validation and cleaning verification executions. This involves scheduling requested meetings, present updates, and preparing solutions needed for carrying out executions. I also facilitate communicate between different validation teams.

My future career aspirations include validation in pharmaceutical engineering and consulting.

EVERSANA

Market Access and Pricing Intern

As a market access intern at EVERSANA, I assist the Value and Evidence (V&E) team in managing health technology assessment (HTA) submissions for various health organizations and private payers, including CADTH and INESSS provincial agencies, for oncology, non-oncology, and rare disease products. My responsibilities involve preparing submission components, attending stakeholder meetings, interviewing clinicians through Key Opinion Leader (KOL) interviews for insights, monitoring reimbursement landscape, and contributing to pharmaceutical policy research in Canada.

My favourite thing about MBDC is how it enabled me to acquire a diverse range of skills, such as networking, time management, and teamwork, alongside gaining knowledge in biomedical science and fundamental business technical skills through courses like BIOMEDDC 701, BUSINESS B733, and BIOMEDDC 702. In a fast-paced environment like mine at EVERSANA, these skills have allowed me to effectively adapt, manage multiple projects with tight deadlines while maintaining high quality and integrity, possess strong communication skills within my internal team and with clients, and overall, become an integral and positive member of the team.

Pharmaceutical Technical Analyst

My internship is a purely project-based role, where I join teams in various departments at Roche both in and out of Canada (Quality, Cell and Gene Therapy, Operations, Roche Diagnostics, Supply Chain, etc.) on long-term and ongoing projects that they have, and see them from start to finish. I utilize common tools like Veeva, data visualization software, statistical analysis, and programming, while also ensuring flexibility in learning new processes/softwares/guidelines for new projects that I take on. A few examples of projects I am currently taking on include: implementing a statistical analysis process for medical devices and device combination products, development of end-to-end Cell and Gene Therapy management review of quality resources, and refining a tool for US marketing, forecasting, sales, and operations.

My favourite part of the role is the people and culture which places such an importance on personal professional development, while providing me with all the opportunities and freedom to do so. Furthermore, the hierarchy is very flat, making it extremely easy to connect with people from all across the organization whether they are in Canada, USA, or Switzerland.

My duties include supporting the Synapse Life Science Consortium core team in delivering the HEALTHI, SOPHIE, and CAMEDA programs for life science start-up companies. This involves interacting with the Hamilton life science ecosystem by participating in community engagement initiatives and supporting the delivery of the 2023 Hamilton’s annual health ecosystem survey.

My favourite part of my internship is meeting with and learning about various life science start-up companies and broadening my network and experience within the Hamilton and Ontario life science community.

Women’s Health Marketing Intern

In my role at Bayer, I utilize software such as Veeva Vault, EWizard, and Canva, to create marketing content such as approved emails, ENewsletters, banner advertisements and more, while ensuring that each material is compliant with PAAB guidelines. With that being said, I have also been given duties outside of my area of expertise allowing for me to explore opportunities outside of marketing. For example, I am currently working with medical affairs in the creation of a new service for HCP’s, as well as with sales in conducting market research, allowing me to collect data to potentially pursue a project of my own.

While I enjoy the role I am in, my favourite part about my day-to-day tasks is how some of these tasks are almost completely outside the scope of what I was hired to do. I have thoroughly expressed my desire to explore other departments, and appreciate that Bayer has listened, giving me the freedom and opportunity to take on multiple different projects to explore my horizons and allowing me to deliver the most amount of value possible to Bayer during the time of my internship.

As a Research Intern, I am responsible for database implementation and workflow automation for the collection and analysis of research data related to customer feedback. Additionally, I aid in projects related to the expansion efforts of the organization by researching and selecting suitable software, applications and systems which could increase integration with the systems in place.

I enjoy having the opportunity to learn more about the needs of small businesses and non-profit organizations as well as learning more about software and workflow automation.

Global Portfolio Management Intern

As a Global Portfolio Management Intern, I am responsible for facilitating the seamless launch of our diverse respiratory medical devices product line in new markets such as France and Australia and; globally for modified products based on the Brand Action plan, developed by the Portfolio management team, given the disparate regulatory and compliance requirements for these markets. I am also responsible for supporting the Marketing generation team to bootstrap ideas to drive engagement and reach of TMI’s social media accounts by creating brand awareness and communicating our unique value proposition effectively to our Customer base.

My favourite part of the internship is the cross functionalism of the role acting as an anchor between the Marketing Generation team and the Global Portfolio Management team. The office environment is very supportive, accommodating, and receptive of challenges associated with the role for interns.

Medical Associate Intern

As a Medical Associate Intern, I have provided support to Medical Leads by compiling ongoing clinical trials, product monographs of available treatments, and publications relating to a given therapeutic area. I have also developed pitch decks for CTC clients that detail the project background, proposal, and timeline, and utilized Veeva Vault PromoMat to manage medical, legal, and regulatory review of CTC-developed content.

I love CTC’s remote working model that still prioritizes team bonding and amazing company culture. The tight-knit community makes it easy to ask for support and questions especially when starting out as an intern.

Technology Transfer Associate Intern

Working as a Technology Transfer Associate, I assist in managing data from technology transfers by maintaining databases, generating reports and visualizations for stakeholders, and communicating departmental activities through the internal newsletter. The main skills that I use in my work are Tableau, Smartsheets, and coding languages such as SQL. I work closely with Technology Transfer Leads to ensure data is of high quality.

My favourite part about my internship is the hybrid working model and supportive team members in my department that make me feel comfortable in my role and support my growth. The amount of resources available at Roche also allow me to learn additional skills which will help me further develop my career.

As an intern in submission management, I contribute to timelining, strategizing, editing, formatting, and facilitating the handover of regulatory filings to health authorities globally. I work on various submission types, particularly within the CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls) sections in Module 3 of the eCTD (electronic Common Technical Document).

I enjoy learning about the different types of submissions that occur at various phases of product development and working with global partners. Moreover, I value Roche’s work culture and the support it provides for career development.
